In keeping with the theme... just some random thoughts from this past week or so...
** Wrenched my calf muscle Wednesday -- not on a walk, but while I was making up my parent's bed for them. Proves my theory that housework is hazardous. It seriously messed with my fitness walks, but got back out there this morning and just did it. You may call me Nike.
** The freaky storm that blew through Montgomery Thursday night was somethin' else. Walking through McGehee Estates this morning was mind-boggling. Parts of it look more devastated than post-Ivan Old Cloverdale. I counted 15 HUGE trees totally uprooted, not to mention the dozens and dozens of trees that lost major bits of themselves. A few streets are still blocked off to car traffic.
** I am not appalled by the Duggar family's announcement that they are expecting another child. Sure, their carbon footprint may be bigger than my family's, but they are by all accounts a genuinely loving, nurturing family. The kids are bright, good-humored, respectful; the parents are as laid-back as you can be with this many kids. They have no debt, they aren't on the public dole, and I have never once heard them try to force their deeply held religious convictions on a soul. Not sure why people are in a wad over this.
** Hillary Clinton is not going to drop out, and mark my words -- she will end up as the Democratic nominee. There will be many smoky backrooms involved, which will prove that no political party has a lock on those sorts of deals.
** On April 1, the city of Montgomery installed cameras at a number of locations (including the intersection at the end of our street) to catch red-light runners. For the entire month of April, these folks were sent warnings, and on May 1, violators will receive actual tickets. The city publicized ad nauseum where all these cameras are. Here's proof that people can be idiots: during the first 6 days of May, when consequences were "real" for the first time, MORE PEOPLE RAN THROUGH THESE LIGHTS than the same period in April, which did NOT bear a penalty.
** We are hoping to catch "Iron Man" this afternoon. Tickets here are now $9.00 for the regular shows, unless you are a Senior Citizen (as is my handsome husband) or a child. Egads.
** I have many other thoughts, but have to go restore my parent's frozen food to their freezer before they get all sad about it. They were quite grateful to have power restored in time to get the house cool for bedtime.
** It really is the little things.

I am not appalled by the Duggars either. The world needs more people like them! :)
iiiii'm not buying your HRC comment. i feel pretty certain that given the media coverage of her financial woes, defecting super delegates, new super delegates choosing Obama... if clinton ended up the nominee, i think Mr. Dean and the DNC would have a riot on their hands.
wanna see young people in real action? make her the nominee and hope that denver can brace itself.
Who are the Duggars? If they are a family with mega children and having more - well, you know my thoughts on that - SELFISH.
I'm gonna take the positive yet cynical view of Clinton - she's keeping McCain out of the spotlight and it's working. As long as they both stay positive - this can't do anything but help. I think if she gets overtly negative, the party will yank her - in the meantime, they're lovin' the coverage.
I'm stickin' to my Hillary theory! I think the upcoming primaries, where she is expected to crush Barack (even he's admitted as much) are going to be exactly the toe back in the door she's going to use to re-persuade the superdelegates, who are not bound to anything they say until they stand up to vote at the convention.
I think McCain is happy to BE out of the spotlight, actually. Falls under the heading of "let them cannibalize themselves" -- why should he insert himself into this in any meaningful way at this point? I sure wouldn't!
I have been sitting back undecided for months -- listening with great interest to Sen. Obama, but the more he and Sen. Clinton duke it out, the more I see wear on his patina. I'm less inclined now to seriously consider him than I was just 3 months ago.
Luke's Denver comment is true, I think and would be quite interesting...
I have decided.
