THINGS THAT DIDN'T SHOCK ME THIS WEEK:
1) The John Edwards story. A powerful politician takes advantage of opportunities to misbehave, hurts his wife and family, and is egotistical enough to believe it will never be found out. Color me shocked. My heart goes out to his wife and his children, and his just desserts aren't really any of my business.
2) The embarrassing upset of the US Men's Beach Volleyball team in their first game against LATVIA, for heaven's sake. Well, okay, I was a little shocked in that first set, but then I realized that the heirs apparent had taken their "apparent" a little too seriously, and when Todd Rodgers said something to the effect that their "B" game could have won against those guys I turned to my husband and said -- there's the thing in a nutshell. CHAMPIONS DON'T BRING THEIR B GAME TO THE OLYMPICS, so I'm glad they got toasted. Humble pie served at 8:00 pm.
3) Having the numbnut in charge of the day's Olympic coverage spend the closing minutes of the day's broadcast focusing on the tragic murder of a US citizen at the hands of what was clearly a deranged Chinese citizen. HEY -- LET'S WATCH FOLKS FROM LITTLE COUNTRIES WHO CAN'T AFFORD POTATOES PLAY THEIR HEARTS OUT FOR NOTHING BUT THE JOY OF ATTAINING ONE'S PERSONAL BEST, and then end the day by reminding us once again that random acts of violence happen everywhere. Nice upper there, NBC.
4) This.
THINGS THAT SORTA DID SHOCK ME THIS WEEK:
1) How short I let Christy cut my hair this morning.
2) How short Henry let the Old Woman at the Old Hair Cut Place cut HIS hair today.
3) A letter from Blue Cross/Blue Shield announcing a change in their dependent benefits -- that came in exactly the nick of time for us, and really amazed me. Essentially -- in an effort to help with the problem of uninsured young adults, such young adults are no longer dropped from their parent's coverage solely because of school/work status. In other words -- Thomas can stay on our policy even if the wrinkles that have developed with Troy don't get UNwrinkled by Monday morning. (Do I look like I'm holding my breath?)
4) How downright autumnal it felt outside this morning!

We need pix of those haircuts!
Yay on the insurance thing.
And YAY for the Latvian Volleyball Team! :)
Both heads of hair look good. I saw them in sunday school (I was late and sat behind y'all)! We got the same letter from BC/BS and we love it, too! Thank goodness the mother of the baby in the John Edwards stuff has enough sense to say "No" to the DNA testing. she says "leave her child alone". Good for her. At least she shows good judgement about that!

I meant Sunday School
Anne
Karen -- Oops, I shoulda remembered my camera this morning...
Anne -- Thought I saw you out of the corner of my eye! We're so nuts about Jason and are hoping to get into his Bible Study this year.
Re: the Edwards thing -- as glad as I am that HOPEFULLY the woman's refusal to allow DNA testing (which is totally her right) will just put this story in the DONE column, I'm cynical enough to not be so sure she made that decision based solely on the best interests of her child.
But if the end result is that this innocent little one doesn't have to be poked and prodded and chased down the street, I don't care WHY the mama isn't allowing it.
YAY for nicer weather !! and I promise I am coming to the bookstore ...THIS WEEK maybe !!And you talked me out of a SHORT haircut...or a shave anyway
