Cha..cha...changes

Let's just get this out of the way first.

I'm really not doing well lately at keeping up with anything, including my blogs. I have read a zillion books, none of which have been reviewed on The Surly Bookseller, there's not been much to journal in my 50th year (same old, same old is good, but it doesn't make for fascinating reading), and most of the time when I sit down to do this I'm on my laptop, and I don't have the Old Clothes pictures on this machine to do Clothesmule.

I've either got to consolidate, or get disciplined. Pffpth.

Anyway... so. Changes. Gotta love 'em, because hating them just doesn't make them not happen.

Change One: That pretty little scar on my back (no stitches anymore, of course, so it's less Frankensteinian, but still cool)? It was melanoma. Totally contained, and now totally gone, so not a worry, and yet, a worry only because when I'm thinking too much it's a reminder that there is nothing non-mutatable about my cells. And here I thought I was SuperCellWoman.

Sunscreen, people.

Change Two: My sweet Luke and Jackie have hightailed it to the southern regions of Birmingham, leaving Montgomery behind. This is way less gut-wrenching than the St. Louis thing would have been, and really, with the internet I can spy on them by reading their blogs and with cell phones, it's not like we can't call. What I miss most acutely are two things -- our Monday Night Ritual at La Zona Rosa, and having them just pop into the bookstore or running into them at the grocery. I'm excited for them, though, and although this means we won't see each other for probably weeks at a time, I'm sure they are okay with that. Work schedules are gonna be a devil to work around, but as a good friend said to me -- this is the "new normal."

Change Three: My sweet Thomas heads back to Troy next Sunday, and will be living in an apartment this time. He's jazzed about that, and I'm jazzed for him. For lots of reasons he needs a positive shake-up in his life, and this one comes not a moment too soon.

Now I've gotta figure out what to do with those other blogs!!!

Hi. I found your Surly Bookseller blog a few weeks ago and liked it. You pointed me to The Girls by Lansen and I appreciate it so much. Hope you don't give up on your site. It's on my favorites and I am going through your old posts now. A discerning reader who writes book reviews is gold.
Thank you.
